Biography

Meonstoke, Hampshire (2004 – present)

Frank Turner (born 28 December 1981) is an English folk/punk singer-songwriter from Meonstoke, Hampshire. Initially the vocalist of post-hardcore band Million Dead, Turner embarked upon a primarily acoustic-based solo career following the band’s split in 2005. To date, Turner has released five solo albums, two rarities compilation albums, one split album and five EPs. Turner’s fifth studio album, Tape Deck Heart was released on 22 April 2013.

Frank Turner started solo shows prior to Million Dead’s break up. The first official performance was at the first Small Town America all dayer at 93 Feet East on September 18th 2004. The solo performances were, in a sense, a sideline to Million Dead. They did allow Turner to display some of his own songwriting capabilities (without a band) as well as some covers of songs and bands he enjoyed, in some cases the songs were much re-worked to fit an acoustic atmosphere. Solo performances were also used to help bolster or expose Million Dead to new individuals as well, with some acoustic in-store and radio performances of Million Dead songs.

At the end of February and start of March (2006) Frank went to Oxford to record the “Campfire Punkrock” EP with Dive Dive as the backing band for three of the songs. This EP was released on May 15 2006 on a limited run through Xtra Mile recordings. It sold out after only a few weeks on sale and had to be re-pressed to meet demand.

Oh yes, I agree in the fact that 'A Decent Cup Of Tea' is one of his best songs!

'Anymore' is hardly dross. Yes, it's not a song that will get much live usage but it's the most intensely personal song Frank has ever written. I love Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls, but I equally love it when Frank reverts to just him and his guitar and belts out some awesome, deeply personal lyrics (Anymore, A Decent Cup of Tea, Worse Things Happen At Sea...etc)

The songs on the Losing Days EP are a lot better than some of the dross on Tape Deck Heart (Broken Piano, We Shall Not Overcome, Anymore etc)

I can't help myself. I can see him over and over again and every single concert it feels like I fall in love with his music for the very first time. I saw many musicans the last year and not many of them had so many songs who touched my heart like Franks songs are able to. There're not many people I would call a genius, but he's in my opinion. Next friday is my 10th concert of him and I wish I could see him another 20 times this year. Just briliant!
