Essex, UK (2005 – present)

Beans On Toast (aka Jay MacCallister) is a British singer from Essex, UK, who rose to out of the UK folk scene in 2005. He is well known for his self-deprecating and honest songwriting, which openly deals with the topics of politics, drugs and love. He has six studios albums and has traditionally released a new record each year on his birthday, 1 December.

Jay claims the songs he writes ‘have the same chords’ and ‘sound like Billy Bragg’. His close friend Frank Turner mentions Jay in many of his songs: I Knew Prufock Before He Got Famous, Live Fast Die Old and To Absent Friends.

Hi everyone. I quickly need to sell 2 Frank Turner tickets for this Wednesday 12th February 2014 at the 02 arena, London. They are in block 102, row G. I bought the 2 for £61 pounds together and I can sell them both for £45. They are on Viagogo or if you want them at this price then please email me at if you are interested. Price may be negotiable. They are e-tickets so I can email you the PDF document with them on, ready to be printed out. I can only accept PayPal but if you don't have an account then it is really easy to set up online. If you are interested or have any questions at all then please feel free to email me. Thanks everyone - James - Beans on Toast performing as a side act

Haha love this man, He's a little legend not giving a crap about the music industry and just doing what he wants. I love how liberally he sings about drugs, politics and race without apology...legend! I know often his songs can blur into one having similar sounds (as is his style) but there are some real anthems in his work and i find myself singing his tunes much to the amusement of passers by when i "there's a paki on the corner, and he runs a little shop, but my dad will not go there, coz he thinks he stole his job, etc" He can really sing about the important issues such as acceptance of race, london bombings and equality yet appear so honest and genuine in his intent. Keep doing what you're doing! :D Oh and tell Frank Turner he's fucking awesome too!
