Biography

Birmingham, England (2003 – present)

Editors are a British / band from Birmingham, England, formed by Tom Smith (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Russell Leetch (bass) Ed Lay (drums) and Chris Urbanowicz (guitar 2003 - 2012) who met while studying at Staffordshire University, in Stafford, England, United Kingdom during 2003. They take their inspiration from bands such as Echo & the Bunnymen, R.E.M., Joy Division and Elbow. To date they have released 3 studio albums.

The band were originally known as (The) Pride, before they changed their line-up and became known as Snowfield, becoming a popular unsigned band. They remained with this name until they signed with Kitchenware Records in September 2004.

The band’s debut single Bullets was released as a limited edition of 500 on Kitchenware Records on January 24, 2005; it quickly gained support from radio stations such as Xfm and BBC 6 Music - where it was the single of the week.

Their debut album, The Back Room, was released on 25 July 2005, to critical acclaim. The band toured out most of 2005, including two jaunts with We Are Scientists. However, after a pivotal support slot on Franz Ferdinand’s Arena tour at the end of 2005, it was the re-release of single Munich in January 2006 that propelled them into the top 10 of the UK single’s chart. The following May, Editors played three sell-out shows at London’s Brixton Academy, and countless gigs worldwide. The album has now sold over 500,000 units.

o novo album vai ter influências de R.E.M. e Arcade Fire... não há como negar que o estilo musical de Editors tem mudado à cada disco, mas jamais para pior <3 Tom Smith rules!

They haven't "forgotten" anything. Maybe the band don't think that the original version is better and after rehearsing the new version several times, they actually like it much more. And either way, even if they have someone else to play the parts Chris did and substitute him, using the old version seems a bit unethical. Even if he's not there physically, they still owe him some loyalty. Musicians take very seriously being respectful to other people in their trade.

I easily got over that Chris is no longer part of the band, but forgetting something that is obviously better is such a mistake by the band. If he is somehow involved in Munich I guess they should record the song again. Yeah, that sounds just a bit more stupid than forgetting better version of the song.

@Nada88: when you say "first version of Two Hearted Spider" I assume you're talking about the one they played live at Royal Albert Hall in 2011. Chris Urbanowicz was involved in the making of that version and he's no longer in the band, so there's no way in hell they're going to include "his" original version. Get over it.

Miss Chris Urbanowicz's trademark guitar/synth sound already. Really wish they'd developed the In This Light style with Flood for the new album. And where is The Sting?? Easily my favourite track from the ones they've played so far
