The grave that they dug him had flowers
Gathered from the hillsides in bright summer colors
And the brown earth bleached white
At the edge of his gravestone, he's gone

My dad used to play this album a lot when I was a kid, and after American Pie and Vincent, this is the track that I remember being most impressed with. Even when I was too young to know what it was about, the despair came through loud and clear.

Enormously influential album, above and beyond the winning classic hit "American Pie". A kinder, gentler soul in the anti-war era than some of his better known contemporaries. Gorgeous lyrics and wonderfully wistful voice.
