About this album

American Pie is the title of a 1971 music album by Don McLean, best known for its title track about The Day the Music Died. The third track, “Vincent,” is a tribute to the famed artist Vincent Van Gogh.

The original 1971 LP is dedicated to Buddy Holly, and was reissued in 1980 minus the track “Sister Fatima”. The original United Artists Records inner sleeve featured a free verse poem written by McLean about the late William Boyd, also known as Hopalong Cassidy, along with a picture of Boyd in full Hopalong regalia. This sleeve was removed within a year of the album’s release. The words to this poem appear on a plaque at the hospital where Boyd died.

I never thought how good this album actually was. Glad to own it with a 8:36 version of American Pie ;-)

Great album. Bought it in a second-hand vinyl store yesterday. I've known the album for years now, glad that I have it on vinyl now.

This is a phenomenal album - not just "American Pie" and filler, like I'd always assumed it'd be.

This was the first song I remember attaching myself to. I was in 5th grade - it was on am radio every morning as my Dad drove me to school. I had a huge crush on this cute little blonde named Michelle, and I fantasized about dancing with her "in the gym". 1970????

this is one great album it reminds me of some great holidays I had as a kid. my mum and dad would have it running on the stereo in the car, apart from everybody loves, me baby which seems a bit out of place everyone should listern to the whole album.
