The phrase “Deas Vail” is a combination of Latin and old French which roughly translates to “Humble servant of God.”
Deas Vail also happens to be a band with a story to tell, and they’re doing it one note at a time. Melodic vocal lines and lullaby guitars; “I’m-telling-you-a-ghost-story” piano parts and syncopated beats. Earnest, searching rock music.

Wes Blaylock (Vocals, Keys)
Laura Blaylock (Keys, Synth)
Kelsey Harelson (Drums)
Andrew Moore (Guitar)
Justin Froning (Bass)
In 2006, Deas Vail released the “Collapse EP,” and over 2500 units were sold on the road alone.
On March 6th, 2007, “All The Houses Look The Same” was released on Brave New World Records.
The “White Lights EP” was released August 26th, 2008.
“Birds and Cages” was released on Mono vs Stereo records on October 27, 2009.

I have to echo some of the other comments on here and say that none of the songs on the new album really grab me yet, but I can tell that it'll grow on me with time. "Birds" seems like a really well done song and I think I'll love it soon. I really want to see them live. People always have wonderful things to say about their shows.

After one listen to the new album, I very much prefer All The Houses Look The Same. Maybe Birds & Cages will grow on me with more listens. Either way, still a great band.

There's even more instrumental variation than All The Houses Look The Same. The violins that teased on the EP get even more playtime here, and without cluttering the instrumentation of the regular band members. They also juggle a lot more time signatures on this album, but there's still plenty of killer melodies. It's basically beautiful and I feel bad for those who think it sounds bland.

New album is solid. Contender for top album of the year. Wes's voice was always a highlight but it sounds even better here, if possible. Laura's background ba-ba's and harmonies never sounded so good, either. And the whole band's musicianship is as good as ever... they kept reminding me of random indie artists but with a much more polished sound.
