Biography

Johannesburg, South Africa (2006 – present)

Dear Reader (formerly known as Harris Tweed), is a band, from Johannesburg, South Africa, who make catchy / humorous music in styles ranging from acoustic ballads to electronic loop experiments. Members are singer-songwriter-pianist Cherilyn MacNeil, Darryl Torr (bass, electronics) & Michael Wright (drums, vocals). They débuted with album Harris Tweed’s “The Younger” (Aug 2006, Just Music) and the latest album is “Idealistic Animals” (Sept 2011, City Slang).

They abandoned the Harris Tweed name, after a legal challenge from Scotland’s Harris Tweed Authority. In late 2008, they played their first European shows, supporting Lambchop & Andrew Bird. Feb 2009, they returned in to play shows with Sophia & their Replace Why With Funny album (produced by Brent Knopf of Menomena), was released. Following a tour of their homeland in March, they return to Europe in April / May, to play headline shows in Germany & support, label-mates, Get Well Soon in France, Italy & the Netherlands. A new album is expected, early in 2011.
