Carly Elisabeth Simon (b. 1945) is a U.S. singer-songwriter.

Simon was born on 25th June 1945 in New York City. She emerged as one of the leading lights of the early 1970s singer-songwriter boom.

Simon’s major breakthrough was 1972’s No Secrets. The album spawned several successful singles, including Simon’s biggest hit, “You’re So Vain”. Simon continued to produce successful albums through the 1970s and early 1980s, moving into film scores after she was dropped by her record label in 1985. She performed the main title song for a James Bond film; “

Nobody Does It Better” was a worldwide hit in 1977, it being the theme song of The Spy Who Loved Me.

Carly is surely one of the most underrated artists of our time. She's been releasing consistently great albums for 40 (yes, 40!) years now and yet she's still only remembered for a handful of songs - while her contemporaries (well, Joni Mitchell really) are seen as the epitome of female talent. Her best albums IMO are 'Boys in the Trees', 'Anticipation', 'Hotcakes' and 'Letters Never Sent' and while shes made some missteps ('Spoiled Girl', 'Have You Seen Me Lately?' the recent 'Never Been Gone') she's certainly earned more recognition that what she gets. /rant
