Biography

Scarborough, Toronto ON, Canada (1988 – present)

Barenaked Ladies (often abbreviated BNL) is a Canadian band currently composed of Jim Creeggan, Kevin Hearn, Ed Robertson, and Tyler Stewart, and formerly Andy Creeggan and Steven Page. Page left the band amicably in February 2009 to pursue solo projects. March 7th, 2009 saw their first show on stage as a foursome in Orlando Florida. Tyler Stewart’s drumset was proudly emblazoned with a “Fantastic 4” logo. In March 2010, they released All In Good Time, their first post-Page studio album.

They formed in 1988 in Scarborough, Ontario, a suburb of Toronto, and are best known for their hit singles, “One Week”, “Pinch Me”, “If I Had $1000000” and “Brian Wilson”, and for their light-hearted and comedic performance style. Their trademark at live shows is humorous banter between songs, and improvised raps/songs, both of which are staples at almost every concert they perform. Each member of the group is a versatile musician, as there are a lot of varied instruments, and each member (with the exception of drummer Tyler Stewart) has written and sung lead on at least one song for the band.

Indie origins

Barenaked Ladies began as the duo of Ed Robertson and Steven Page. The two had gone to school together since Robertson was in the fourth grade (Page was a grade ahead), but were not friends until they ran into each other at a Harvey’s restaurant following a Peter Gabriel concert.

Ed and Steven's vocals were some of the most perfect harmonies in the history of ever. I still like some of the newer BNL stuff, but their voices were a match that will never be equalled anywhere else.

Big Bang Theory Theme is one of the most appalling pieces of music ever written. Not only does is enable such a shitty show, but it's also fucking cancerous in its own right.

New album is pretty good. First listen, didn't think much of it, but after a few more listens, I've realized that it's really solid. I still prefer All In Good Time, I like the darkness on that album. I don't know why so many don't like it. Keepin' It Real is probably my favorite from the new album. Love the guitar.

The new album is a nice return to a more upbeat sound. The only let downs are "Odds Are" and "Did I Say That Out Loud?", which sound like Miley Cyrus or Taylor Swift songs (lyrics, production, and everything else) with BNL filling in on vocals. Just skip those two and you're set.
