Biography

Gunma, Japan (1985 – present)

BUCK-TICK (バクチク) is a Japanese rock band, formed by Imai Hisashi in 1985 in Gunma, Japan. They are commonly credited as one of the founders of the visual kei movement. Their musical style is very hard to describe as they keep changing it and developing their music all the time.

The band members are 櫻井敦司 (Sakurai Atsushi) (vocals), 今井 寿(Imai Hisashi) (guitars, noises, electronics, vocals), 星野 英彦 (Hoshino Hidehiko) (guitars, chorus), 桶口豊 (Higuchi Yutaka) (bass) and ヤガミ・トール (Yagami Toll) (drums).

BUCK-TICK have performed with, for example, Marilyn Manson, KMFDM, Soft Ballet, LUNA SEA and The Yellow Monkey. The band members have also participated in different side-projects, such as Schwein (Sakurai and Imai with Raymond Watts (Pig) and Sascha Konietzko (KMFDM)).

I'd see LOVE PARADE as a more CLIMAX TOGETHER like song, while I think STEPPERS might be more in the direction of INTER RAPTOR. Just my hunch though.

The news are out: no single or CD release planned yet, but 2 new tracks will be featured in their 2 new documentary movies as theme songs! Titles are LOVE PARADE (lyrics: Sakurai, music: Hoshino) and STEPPERS -PARADE- (lyrics: Sakurai & Imai, music: Imai).

Random: been scrolling through Imai's blog and it seems he wrote on April 23 that he made a new song (or new songs?), plus yesterday's blog entry says that "recording is well underway" (credits to GoogleTranslate xD).

Or you could just give one of their countless "Best Of" collections a listen... Not the most complete way of doing it, but they give you a basic idea of their evolution.

If you end up trying the 13kai wa gekkou album like Jigsaw said and you like that, I'd give Six/Nine a try too. It's one of their darker albums along with 13kai.

Razzle Dazzle is a pretty upbeat album. For the more suspensefull songs I would say: check out the 13kai wa Gekkou album and songs like Gekka Raijin, Romance, Lullaby III, My Baby Japanese type 2,Rakuen, Taiyou no Korosareta, Dress, Lady Skeleton, Voo Doo, Kalevinka, Mr. Darkness & mrs. Moonlight.

Huh, it would appear I have Razzle Dazzle saved on my computer, I don't even remember downloading it. How convenient, I'll definitely give it a listen then.

@wills316: if you liked the Shiki OP, then I firstly would recommend the RAZZLE DAZZLE album since that's where the song is on (in an "album version"). Other than that you might enjoy the Memento Mori or 13kai wa gekkou albums if you're looking for similar atmosphere.

I really like the Shiki OP by them and want to hear more of their stuff but it would appear their discography is quite extensive and I don't really know where to start. Recommendations, anyone?

Sakurai sounds pretty good. But what is up with his microphone? In some songs (like on Memento Mori) you almost cant hear him sing. Check 1:49-1:51. The back vocals are way too loud. On other songs like D. Beauty, his voice is hard to hear sometimes. Microphone problems or not mixed very well? Am i the only one who hears this?
