Biography

Dortmund, Germany (1984 – 1990, 1998 – present)

There are mutliple artists with this name:

1. Angel Dust (originally Angeldust, not to be confused with many other less successful/lasting bands of the same name) are a / band originating from Dortmund, Germany that started off as a typical garage band. Taking their name from a song title off the black metal band Venom’s debut album Welcome To Hell, Angel Dust was founded in 1984. Their style was initially heavily influenced by the NWOBHM metal scene and the Bay Area thrash metal scene. They soon found their niche in the speed and thrash metal styles which were widely popular at the time. The 1980s would see two releases from the band: 1986’s Into the Dark Past and 1988’s To Dust You Will Decay. They proceeded to disband in 1990 because of internal conflicts.

Although all members had gone their separate ways, founding member Frank Banx had no desire to let the Angel Dust name die. Around 1998 Banx, and original drummer Dirk Assmuth, gathered a completely new lineup (including Frank Banx’ younger brother Steven Banx on keyboards) to start from scratch. This reincarnation would handle music very differently, shifting dramatically towards power metal, and would consequently gain a solid reputation in Europe.

After releasing a few succesful albums in the late 90s and early 2000s, a series of line-up changes siginificantly reduced the band’s activities. They are however still active, and have “entered the studio (in March of 2006) to record the long awaited successor from Of Human Bondage.”

"Also, really interesting "Temple of the King" cover. Dio would be proud" Yes. Dio was proud. I read some interviews with him, when asked which cover of his song he likes the most he said "Temple of the King" by Angel Dust.

Not correct. It's not a cover, the main riff is similar to RacerX's "Street lethal"...a sort of homage...

@braindust666 Probably, she's one of these girls that only listens to Bay-Area Big-4, plus only Slayer/Sepultura/Kreator/Destruction and Sodom, along with a 80's cvlt style- washed out tight jeans, white adidas, belt spikes etc..I can notice them from 1 mile away. Pure poser thrashers that only scratch the surface to find a thrasher boyfriend or metal girlfriend, and ignoring the huge underground and the essense of the revolutionary music that thrash is. Even I as an non-thrasher, can name about 100 thrash bands. I recently was with a metal friend, and then came his female cousin, (who boasts to be a thrasher and totally looks like one). I was only wearing 'trendy clothes', not looking metal at all. Then she told me despicably.. 'Nah, I only dig thrash metal dude, fvk trends..!!" then I asked her if she knows 'Flotsam and Jetsam', 'Witchery' or "Angeldust"? (big bands in the genre) and of course she did not know them at all !! Pure posing shame, to be out-knowledged by a 'trendy' guy.

I am a huge fan of both their older and newer stuff as I love both cult speed/thrash and am also a big fan of power/prog metal, I also find it really fukking kvlt that they got their name from a Venom song xD hahaha, I finally was able to buy all of their cds (except for the demos) and I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of their new album. also does anybody find it dumb as fuck that this "thrash metal" girl that I know assumed that Angel Dust is hipster just because she never heard of them? hahaha, thats why I hate websites like hellsheadbangers, they stuff they advertise could never compare to Angel Dust!

Sounds like a thrashier Savatage or a like a melodic Nevermore. Some great songs here !! Also, really interesting "Temple of the King" cover. Dio would be proud.

I hope it actually comes out some day, because by the looks of how things are going for Angel Dust there's a possibility we never see "Tales from Ashes and Dust".

So there was a ten year wait between To Dust You Will Decay and Border of Reality, and almost that long of a wait between Of Human Bondage and Tales From Ashes and Dust. About time, Angel Dust!
