Denver, United States (1992 – 2005)

16 Horsepower was an musical group based in Denver, Colorado. Their music was usually serious in tone with distinct Christian religious lyrics dealing with conflict and redemption. The core members of the group from its founding in 1992 were David Eugene Edwards, Jean-Yves Tola, and Pascal Humbert (the latter two formerly of the band Passion Fodder). After releasing four studio albums and touring extensively, the band broke up in 2005, citing “mostly political and spiritual” differences. The members remain active in the groups Woven Hand and Lilium.

Very powerful music. I do not share David's faith, but underneath the christian images and metaphors, all I can hear is love shining through him.

Heavily influenced by The Gun Club, anyone who likes these guys need to check them out. Love both bands.

FreddyGump (better late than never...), check out The Horse Flies. They've got a very similar sound. Recommended track, "I Live Where It's Grey".

All the albums are great, but 'Secret South' is a masterpiece. Like the perfect blend of 16HP and Wovenhand.

I may not agree with the bands personal beliefs, but the way they present them with such a fiery passion is incredible.

If Jandek was actually good, this is what he would sound like.

@FreddyGump 16 Horsepower is very similar to Kiss The Anus of a Black Cat and Warsaw Village Band I think. Raw, folkish sound. And maybe Current 93 or Death in June, but this is neo-folk, something "slightly" different.
