They’ll be joined by progressive rock trio Amplifier, crust punk veterans Doom and blackened doom purveyors Dragged Into Sunlight at Leeds Union University on Bonfire Night, Saturday, November 5.

The four diverse bands are just a taster of what’s to come as organisers put together the seventh edition of the UK’s finest metal event, with headliners and many more bands to be announced across at least three stages.

Festival director Gavin McInally, said: “Seven years in and the hunger to put together the finest day of metal in the UK hasn’t faded at all. In fact, after a couple of difficult years, and in a very crowded market we’re more determined than ever to re-establish Damnation Festival as the best metal event this island has to offer.

“Amplifier, Doom and Dragged Into Sunlight will also all make their Damnation debuts as we aim to create our finest and most diverse bill yet.”

Tickets go on sale at 9am tomorrow morning, priced £29 are available from:

@ XfnSnow: as far as the Damnation organisers were concerned, Ulver had agreed to play a ninety minute set to cover for Decapitated's absence. At least that is my understanding of it. If they hadn't wanted to play any more than an hour they should still have come on to the stage at 9.30 and finished 10.30ish rather than messing about for half an hour. That would have allowed people to watch a bit of Devin as well had they so wished.

And at Oslo they only played England from WotR, at Koko with Virus they played the entirety of WotR including Stone Angels... Truth is, they do have enough material to play for ages - They can Jam on Not Saved, Darling Didn't We Kill You? and Like Music indefinitely. I think the difference is preparation. Remember the amount of equipment Tore had at the Opera house? Since doing the WotR set they've really stripped things down. It's naiive to think last minute they can just book an extra load of luggage on their flights to bring the other instruments they'd need to execute the SotS material in a set. Plus who needs the stress of that when you were told an hour, and you;ve been recording a new release? Perhaps when the Damnation management announced that Ulver might play for longer they hadn't quite thought out whether or not Ulver COULD play for longer.

@confu: Hmm, they did play a large set at the Oslo Opera. Don't know if a 90 minutes long one, but yeah... http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/ulver/2010/operaen-oslo-norway-43d4478b.html

@Three_Sixxes: That's very true, but I found Ulver rather sobering (or maybe just the wait before they went on). Anyway, I've not touched a drop today and the bootlegs on Youtube sound awesome too. I feel bad for Ulver, if they were having a shit time with it all, it's not my place to crack the whip like some circle master and demand that they jump through hoops for my entertainment, what they did was play the set out and the music itself still came across beautifully.

Ulver never play a 90 minutes set, I think they couldn't do it even if they wanted. Their material is difficult to perform live. I have never seen them play any longer than about an hour.

@HamishMack: I think that's exactly the problem. They were supposed to start at 9:30, and we all stood around for half an hour before they started (and personally, I then missed most of Devy, where I was intending to do half-and-half, starting with Ulver). When they did, there was a very pretentious air about them, like "we cant be bothered to play to a crowd of stupid metalheads" - they've not been that distant for any of their past three London shows.

I thought Ulver were damn good. Just because they weren't running about "giving the horns" doesn't mean they were shit. I was dissapointed with them only playing about 55 minutes though when it was stated they would play a 90 minute set.
