The Last Word: Boy George
Boy George speaks to Last.fm about his lengthy career with Culture Club and the hope to reunite the band, being inspired by 70's in the creation of his new album 'This is What I Do' and gay rights.
Born in London as George Alan O'Dowd, the flamboyant pop star is cleaned up, sober and back on the scene after a bit of a rough patch. With the return of his solo project after an 18 year hiatus, scrobbles are strong with Boy George reigning in at just over 653k scrobbles (not counting the 3.7 million scrobbles for his original claim to fame: Culture Club).
Infamous in the pop & club scene throughout the 80's, generating timeless mega-hits such as "Karma Chameleon" & "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me", The Boy stays true to his vintage roots. The new record This Is What I Do (released Jan. 26 of this year,) draws heavily from classic rock & analog dance charts from the 70's & 80's.
Joining us in the Last.fm studio for a very warm & friendly conversation, Boy Georges reminisces about his career & life, his Club Culture Podcast, working on reuniting Culture Club, his solo record & the current state of gay rights worldwide.
