I'll answer back here, old skewl! Cool man! Yeah, the 2014 Avalon was god-awful, and it has since gotten much better I feel like. Haven't systematically listened to everything from it and paid much thought anyway, but the little I know about the newer stuff sounds some of the better Tolkki from the last 20 years. Meaning the material won't even touch his stuff prior to that, but is kinda good nonetheless. I'm horrified at the thought of how his revitalized (and according to him "a completely new idea" :D) Return to Dreamspace will be, it if ever will see the light of day... I don't see Avalon as your top artist nor any of their albums as a top album for you, though!

oh, I do see it a top artist in last 90 days view, but indeed not the album. Last FM - it just works!

I usually only listen to music in the car (and usually on shuffle so there's not many listens of any one artist) or on vinyl which doesn't scrobble at all (there are manual workarounds for that but that would interfere with the listening experience).

@UserNo84 what? I don't know who you are or what this means. I assume it was posted here by mistake. I would contact you directly but don't know how. You disabled your shout box.

Yeah, we have high compatibility, but we share good bands. Maybe if i didn't reset my profile 3 times over the past 11 years we would have more in common. My taste has changed quiet a bit, but there are still things i love from 2006-2008 that will never go out of style. I used to listen to a lot metal, and especially black metal (all waves) along with doom and crust punk. Now i only listen to some selected bands which are barely labeled as that.

Lol, its about to roll off my charts. I was addicted for like a month in the summer. So now I will always associate Summer 2019 with that album, and be taken back when I listen. The power of music...

Please remind me what band you came here from. I originally thought Helloween invented power metal with their song "Oernst of Life" in 1984. But they did not. Another strong candidate is Bodine's "Rock Machine" in 1982. I am seeking the first power metal song.

I'm from Riot's shoutbox. Thanks for reply. I'd also add Accept's Fast as a Shark, its chorus clearly inspired power metal formula. Check out Attack band, they had excellent early power metal albums in 1985 and 1989, and their 1984 debut probably counts too, at least partially (I'd say it was a mix of AOR and metal mainly).

I actually think based on the drums Fast as A Shark is easier to classify as power metal. Riot's warrior and narita are more of a fast hard rock. But clearly precursors to the genre.

SO NOW IT HAPPENED, I also got the ugly, confusing layout too. Last.FM already tried to install this style (song title on the left, artist on the right) years ago and failed (/ lost a huge bunch of users). Aren't they interested in the opinions of their users and subscribers? I can't believe that more than 10 % of "us" all appreciate the layout design. I, personally, am a member since 2002 (since 2007 with another name), we've walked through a lot of changes, lost a few very good features, but THIS is REALLY bugging me out to the max. Express your opinion: create a user account in their community support on www.getsatisfaction.com/lastfm . We can't let this happen! We love our customary Last.FM that we're used to for ages. Without us this page is nothing, and we have to tell the admins that we love the style that's been here for years. WE are Last.FM !!!

I don't get it. Looks the same to me. The major update was like 3 or 4 years ago and I'm used to it by now.

Windswept is like the best of Hate Forest, Blood of Kingu, and old Drudkh combined. So addicted, in fact I'll listen again now :D

TBH, I like early Drudkh the most. Windswept's best release, IMHO, is Visionaire, and specifically the track Your Bitter Bread. It is possible that you haven't heard that EP because it's not in their bandcamp webpage. It was released one year ago (April 19, 2018) by Ván Records: https://windswept-vanrecords.bandcamp.com/

That's a good question. I don't follow new stuff like I used to. I basically just find stuff from Spotify Discover Weekly and Release Radar playlists. If I really like it I save it and listen later. If I listen more than once, then its a really good album. However, a fatal flaw with last.fm comes into play. I often listen to like ABM and stuff like that, where an album might consist of 4 15-minute songs. After listening 4 times, thats still lower amount of tracks than Devin Townsend's new two-disk album which I've only listened once. We need something that tracks total time listened. Maybe put that in the hypothetical app we are hypothetically working on? :D Also is there a way to sort top albums by release date? Otherwise I will be searching for these "top 2019 albums" manually and I'll get back to you later.

I think a good portion of people who listen to metal have the same problem you mentioned here (about lengthy songs). For the other issue (sorting top albums chronologically) I think you can use RateYourMusic website but that still wouldn't be optimal because there are tons of albums released every week and it's still hard to track.

I've seen that... not interested in manually typing in scrobbles. Besides, what i listen to most I also listen digitally a lot, at work or in the car.

After thinking a minute... I need something like Shazam to recognize the song and also scrobble it, just running on my phone in front of the record player... wonder if that exists?

For your question: not that I'm aware of. Maybe we can make one for ourselves? I'll talk to my friends about it. But anyway, you don't need to "manually" scrobble your tracks with Universal Scrobber. That website is connected to Music Brainz and Discogs and you can scrobble from those databases. So, it's basically just choosing the album you want and pressing the scrobble button. It takes maybe 1 minute for each album, but it's still some finite amount of time that I understand you might want to save.

Oh, see that doesnt work either. I usually have it on auto and it plays one side multiple times, might stop it in the middle of a side to flip it, or just stop or switch to a different album. I have OCD when it comes to scrobbling. If you ever do try to make that let me know because I want in :) I have CS background but never tried to make an app, but I definitely am interested.

This will be a controversial opinion, but I used to like how each of his albums had a cohesive sound and a specific concept they are centered around, a specific feeling. They had to be listened as a whole album. This felt more experimental, even different parts of one track don't sound like the same track. But maybe I just need to listen when I can pay closer attention (not at work!). The CD2 of demos is a little more straightforward.

Mate, apologies for the late reply ey haha forgot i posted on your page. I don't find that controversial at all, the album is definitely all over the map there's no denying that lol. i do understand what you're saying though. I ended up giving it a couple of spins in row and loved it. Bought the deluxe edition with all that gorgeous artwork. It's quite the package. If you haven't had the chance to yet i do hope you find the time to hear it when you're not distracted by work. it feels like it takes time to absorb. Personally i haven't heard everything Devy's put out, i'm a little late to the party. I heard SYL years ago and then the next thing i heard from him was Deconstruction and Ghost and now Empath and Physicist. I had planned on checking out Transcendence when it came out but for some reason it never happened until a few days ago. I love that song Stormbending, and Offer Your Light. Ended up buying that album the other day.

What's up with this last.fm update? It looks like they just moved some stuff around arbitrarily, increased the text size, and it seems to be running slower. Feel free to discuss.
