The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual contest held in Europe to select the best song out of the competing nations - of which there were 43 in the 2008 edition, the most on record. Competition is purely fun - a commercial character, based on the planned creation of banal types of popular music in the narrow context of competition with no music, art or social quality / implications.
