The term “Ethereal” does not neatly apply itself to any sort of style or sound in music. Rather it is used in attempt to describe a sort of other-worldly, heavenly sort of beauty in music that is difficult to grasp. A lot of Shoegaze also has a focus on sounding "dreamy" , distant, hazy, etc. Which is pretty fitting with the description for this tag. I mean, you could say some bands that are considered Shoegaze don't really sound that way. but I'd say more do than don't.

"Shoegaze sound deals with simplicity." But Shoegaze is all about the noisy effects, distortion and droning guitars. I'm not saying these qualities are ethereal, but I find the idea of shoegaze being about simplicity quite bizarre.

how come shoegaze gets connected with ethereal type of music? Shoegaze sound deals with simplicity, smoother and lighter than alternative especially in lyrics, but I guess shoegaze might sound ethereal. see Alcest, Les Discrets, Arctic Plateau, etc...
