Rob Cantor is a singer/songwriter from the Detroit area, based in Los Angeles. Known for his role as the yellow-tied guitarist and singer for quirky alternative rock band Tally Hall, Cantor also releases music under his own name. In 2012, his song "Shia LaBeouf" went viral online, spawning many memes and animations. In March 2014, he announced his first solo album, Not A Trampoline. It was released on April 14, 2014, preceded by the single "Ghost" and the music videos for "Old Bike" and "All I Need Is You." The album featured contributions from fellow Tally Hall members Andrew Horowitz, Ross Federman, and Bora Karaca, as well as Madi Diaz and Jhameel.
In early 2012, he and Richard Lax created a musical titled Mr. President, There's an Asteroid Headed Directly For the Earth, which was intended to be an episodic animated musical for Amazon Instant Video. This project was abandoned however, and the four songs written for it are featured on the release Asteroid Musical.
In July 2014, Cantor released a music video for the song "Perfect," in which he sang the song while demonstrating 28 impossibly accurate celebrity impressions. The video went viral and racked up millions of views in one week before being revealed to have been a hoax, the voices pre-recorded by professional impressionists and lip-synced by Cantor. In October 2014, Cantor uploaded Shia LaBeouf Live, a music video for his previous viral hit "Shia LaBeouf," an extravagant extended stage performance of the song featuring an orchestra, choir, dancers, and acrobats— as well as a surprise cameo from Shia LaBeouf himself.
Since then, Rob's work has mostly involved providing songs for Disney shows, such as The Ghost and Molly McGee. In 2023, he wrote the song "I Stand By Your Side" for the soundtrack of movie River Wild, which released in August that year. In 2024, he featured on musical project White Collar Prison, in which he played Cornelius Vanderock.
