Biography

Quadra Island, British Columbia, Canada (2005 – present)

Mother Mother is an band which formed in Quadra Island, British Columbia, Canada in 2005. The band consists of Ryan Guildemond (vocals, guitar), Molly Guildemond (vocals, keyboards), Jasmin Parkin (keyboards, vocals), Jeremy Page (bass) and Ali Saidat (drums). So far they have released four albums: Touch Up (2007), O My Heart (2008), EUREKA (2011) and The Sticks (2012).

The band began in Vancouver in January 2005, when guitarist and vocalist Ryan Guldemond was at music school and wanted to start a band based around vocal-driven pop songs. He recruited his sister Molly along with a friend from college, Debra-Jean Creelman, to accompany his own vocals for the songs he had written, and the trio played as an acoustic act before adding drummer Kenton Loewen and bassist Jeremy Page.

The five members started off playing under the name Mother, and in the fall of 2005, they independently released a self-titled album. This debut album was recorded with Howard Redekopp, who had also worked with The New Pornographers and Tegan and Sara. When the Vancouver Province rated Mother as one of the top five BC bands to watch for in 2007, they began to receive acclaim for their debut album. Shortly thereafter, Mother landed a nationally broadcasted concert opening for K’naan and The Wailin’ Jennys.

Musically I dig O My Heart, but they need to.. I don't know, hire a new stylist or something, there's something really jarring about their visual style in all their pics and videos. They look like a mainstream pop band from the 90s or something, I can't put my finger on what about it bothers me but goddamn it really does.

WAIT WHAT? They've had a new album this whole time and I didn't know? I feel stupid, I'm usually on top of these things.

BTW, Bit by Bit as a single is a great choice! I hope it helps the band to get more and more recognition

Too many great songs in all of them. There's not a worst, definitely, just the one that I don't like as much as the others, and, IMO, O My Heart is this one.
