They began in Brooklyn, New York with their heart, their soul: Yula Be’eri. Yula hails from Tel Aviv, Israel. There, she learned the ways of the bass, voice and piano. She brought those talents to NYC to the World Inferno/Friendship Society, Star Fucking Hipsters, and NaNuchKa—to name just a few. Over the years, she’s been growing a garden of original music; these songs are now part of the eXtended Family.

With her desire to play a wide assortment of musical styles, and a need for reaching different audiences, Yula gradually gathered around her an motley array of musicians. In January 2009, she began playing with Isaac Gardner—former Blue Man and Actors Theatre of Louisville Apprentice. They worked for the past year to find the super drive and rhythm of the music.

Since their first show at Le Poisson Rouge in February 2009—in just less than a year—Yula and the eXtended Family have played more than 20 shows; touring extensively along the East coast and the SouthWest.

After a great successful weekly residency at the Knitting Factory that took Brooklyn by storm, Yula and The eXtended Family are booked to play the Harvest of Hope Music Festival in addition to the Beyond Race Magazine showcase at SXSW 2010 in Austin, Texas.
