I would say this band may be the very definition of punk. They didn't want to sound like anyone else and no else sounded like them. Still to this day, no one has come close to sounding like them. What a band!

True punks don't put their music for commercial projects! :D At least we have Poly's solo material on spotify that wasn't available for a long time

I wouldn't know about this band if it wasn't for Uncut magazine (which I got in the 2000's and still have to this day). They had a special issue all about punk and X-Ray Spex was one of the bands featured in the magazine. Amazing punk! In my first shout I mentioned it was a magazine by NME, it was actually Uncut. The magazine does feature articles and photos from NME though.

This is fantastic punk rock that I should have listened to years ago. I remember reading about them in an NME magazine all about punk. I still have that magazine. They're easily one of the most creative punk rock bands to ever exist.

it is a little bit annoying that a loudly singing girl about loud topics automatically marked as feminist. but there is no denying that Poly was and still is an inspiration for lots of women in art.

her lyrics were anti-capitalist. feminism is just another branch of that ideology. some people like to pretend the riot grrrl movement emerged out of nowhere but they were continuing what other women had already started years ago.

"possibly the best feminist band of all times" i'd argue that x-ray spex aren't really feminist "Styrene herself insists it was more intended as an anti-consumerist/anti-capitalist jingle, and was not exclusively feminist in nature" - about oh bondage up yours just because it's a band made of women doesn't mean they're feminist, isn't is sexist to assume that? :P

It wasn't a band of women. She was the front woman of an excellent first wave punk band who sang about a variety of things, including, but not limited to feminism. <3

Not a conservative, but that's ok. Go have fun at your safe space libtard "punk" shows. Punk has been killed by liberal crybabies. We all thought pop punk and nazi punks would kill punk but it's you crybaby losers that whine about feminism and racism

Germ Free Adolescents is a great album. A must have for any post-punk fan out there.
