Aaron Funk, a producer of widely varying electronic music styles, achieved a reputation in experimental electronic circles upon his signing to planet µ (label run by Mike Paradinas, aka µ-Ziq). It’s a testament to his production prowess that his base of Winnipeg, Manitoba, hasn’t prevented IDM enthusiasts around the world from investigating his recordings.

Often abbreviated to “Vsnares” — Funk’s distinctive style reflects unconventional time signatures and extremely rapid and erratic rhythms. Unpredictable and stimulating, the effect is intense.

Funk’s first release was “Greg Hates Car Culture”, an EP for the History Of The Future Label, followed by “Salt for Zhark” and “Fuck Canada // Fuck America” with Stunt Rock for CLFST. When Mike Paradinas heard “Greg Hates Car Culture”, he immediately signed Funk for Planet µ.

The first Venetian Snares LP on Planet µ “Making Orange Things” (a co-production with Speedranch), dropped in early 2001; following in short order were 5 more releases, all released before the end of 2002. Funk continued recording for a variety of labels, including Hymen, Addict, and Sublight Records, and has also recorded as snares, Snares Man!, BeeSnares, Ventriloquist Snakes, Puff, Last Step and Senetian Vnares.

I made the point of looking at his head for clarification - if a video is sped up you can instantly tell by looking how the rest of their body moves, which is where I watch when people say "it's obviously sped up." His movements are natural, if any complaint could be launched it's that his camera is shitty. He's obviously just a skilled drummer; watch his other videos. Not trying to be a penisface, just saying.

Firstly for most of the video you cant actually even see his face properly because of that hat he's wearing so you cant really make any judgements about his head movements, and secondly his head movements have nothing to do with my conclusion that's it's sped up anyway. If like me you have an ounce of common sense, you spent most of the video watching his hand movements, and you probably relapsed that a lot of them are far too quick and fluent for it to be a real-time recording, which is why I said it must obviously have been sped up.

Renoise is a Trackers based software, which is what VS uses. I was personally disapointed with Filth. I don't think it's a bad release, but I was hoping it would mark a return to the old doll doll doll style, and in some ways it those, but I belive it could have been done much better... I read in some interviews or some thing that Venetian Snares uses lots of different equipment, both soft ware and hard ware. He might not even use the same equipment throughout an album. Also, it seems that the use of music soft ware is completely a matter of opinion. I've seen elitists on all sides. I personally prefer FL Studio, though I don't use many of its built in gens.
