Mofo (5:47)
From Pop and 38 other releases
The third track on the 1997 album Pop and the last single to be released from it on December 1997. The most overtly “techno” track on the record, there are many samples, loops and a keyboard bass instead of the usual guitar. The band opened every single PopMart Tour show with it and they also performed it live at the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards.
It is, like the rest of the record, quite a heavy track, full of menace and punch. Bono’s very personal lyrics lament his mother who passed away when he was in his teens, and, like alot of other U2 songs, has religious undertones. No other artists samples were used in this track, all loops, samples and beats were created by the band and their producers.
The single (Mofo Remixes) has a variety of remixes by producers such as Roni Size and Romin; several different versions of the single were released on vinyl and CD. Also the electronica band Underworld recorded a remix but this was never released; information on that can be found here.

Lookin' in the places where no flowers grow
Lookin' for to fill that God shaped hole
