Biography

Torch Song was a British synthpop and dance band of the early 1980s consisting of William Orbit, Laurie Mayer and Grant Gilbert. In 1985, Grant left to pursue other projects and long-time friend Rico Conning officially joined the group. After the release of ‘Exhibit A’ in 1987, Torch Song as a group was put on the back-burner while William concentrated on solo work and remixes. He continued to write with both Laurie and Rico and in 1995 they released ‘Toward the Unknown Region.’

Finally ripped my vinyl copy, nostalgia overload! A great album. I remember John Peel was quite fond of 'prepare to energize' , well he played it at least once...

It's so sad that this style of electronic music is dying out these days... Being taken over by new styles... Very few people at my age (As of 2010) would listen to this sort of brilliance. It's sort of sadening that I, we most likely will never see this sort of music reaching to the levels of pop music...

Yeah - its really bizarre that none of this - Wish Thing in particular - does not appear on CD. Especially since William Orbit went on to greater fame.

This is one of those bands that you stumbled across, wondering what was playing on the turntable at someone's party, and never forgot.

'Wish Thing' is one of the great lost pop albums. Listening to it now and it's still fucking AWESOME!
