From releasing her first two records, Little Things (2004) and Bird on a Wire (2006) on Atlantic Records, to releasing two independent records, Let Go (2008) and Know Where I’m From (2010), which featured a limited edition, sold out fan participation book, on her own T Killa Records, Toby Lightman has been very busy.
Toby has performed on various National TV shows such as Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, NBC’s Today Show, and CBS’ Second Cup. She has toured with renowned artists such as Rob Thomas, Jewel, James Blunt, Gavin DeGraw, Train, Marc Cohn, Lilith Fair 2010 and on one memorable evening, Prince.
Since becoming an independent artist, it has seemed as though her career has really blossomed through much success with film and TV placements including “Everyday” on Fox’s Bones, “Holding a Heart” from her side project Girl Named Toby on WB’s One Tree Hill, Vampire Diaries as well as the feature film What’s Your Number?, “Let Go” as the HSN commercial theme song, “Snow Day” as the KMart commercial theme song, “Addicted” which aired recently in the ongoing commercial for ABC’s Desperate Housewives and too many other features to mention in this tiny blip. Excited about what lies ahead, Toby is now busier than ever working on her newest record, which is due for release later this year … to be continued!

Toby does well as her songs get used in films, TV shows, HSN , a NASCAR Theme and things like that. She writes "Workshop Songs" called T'Killa (her nickname) collections which are little EP's that she sells excclustively on her bandcamp site http://tobylightman.bandcamp.com/ so since departing from Lava/Atlantic she's still kickin' and going strong. I think that all those spots and things keep the $ coming in and allow her to be a brilliant, independent artist and she can play her shows when she wants and currently she's DEEP into her 4th studio record... I'm PUMPED for it. Her progression as an artist, songwriter and singer has been remarkable! The only thing I can think of is her diversity and ability to do so many things stylistically (and how great she is at playing a real instrument- guitar) might be hard for some less intelligent audiences to grasp or be why she never had songs blow-up but who cares.... the real fans who come see her live know how off-the-hook she is!

It's sad how she doesn't have much of an audience. I remember when "Devils and Angels" was released. It was quite popular. Did the media forget about her after that?

Toby is cute and has loads of talent, my guess is the people at Atlantic didn't find her marketable because she wasn't selling ("the right"/trashy/provocative/extravert) image and plays/writes ACTUAL MUSIC. She appears to not only be an EXCEPTIONAL singer but a very good guitar player too. Has a real gift for song-writing and melody... I'm excited to see her rock this Tuesday...
