Upplands Väsby, Sweden (1987 – present)

Therion, formerly known as Blitzkrieg (1987-1988) and Megatherion (1988), is a band founded by Christofer Johnsson in Upplands Väsby, Sweden in 1987.

Therion was initially a band, however starting with 1995’s Lepaca kliffoth, Therion began to gradually incorporate symphonic elements into their metal music. The band has seen many changes in line-up and style throughout its history with Christofer Johnsson being the only constant member.

Beginning as a band, they later turned to combining orchestral elements with their metal music, employing heavy use of choirs and classical musicians, not only as additions to but also as integral parts of the composition. The band is one of the first both commercial and audience successful with fully live orchestra featured. It is also one of the bands which originated, popularized and highly influenced the genre.

Therion takes its lyrical themes from various mythologies, occult and magical teachings, and ancient traditions and writings. The majority of the lyrics are written by Thomas Karlsson, head and founder of the magical order Dragon Rouge, of which Johnsson is a member. The band’s name originates from the Greek word therion (θηρίον), which means beast, in reference to the “beast” of the Christian Book of Revelation, though the word itself is taken from the Celtic Frost album To Mega Therion.

But well, thankfully, this has nothing to do with the music.

Well, I kinda understand gorski about Christofer's haircut. In my opinion he looks great with his new look and when I saw the Sitra Ahra promo, I assumed that he must had it also for the facts that TheOFFman said. But there are other artists that have cut his hair and I don't liked it, for example with Hansi Kürsch, in my opinion long hair suited him much better and with short hair he looks strange: his head seems kinda big xD

Christofer cut his hair cause he was getting bald at the back of his head and didn't want to look ridiculous with long hair. He said he saw one guy from some band (don't remember who) who had a long hair and and was really bald and looked horrible so he promised to himself to cut his hair if he ever gets bald. Don't see a problem there, it has nothing to do with music.

@silversadheart Im glad you understand my problem. The music from Sitra is good, typical Therion. But as I said...the vocals are my problem. But enough with that, I made my point and will speak of this no more.

Thomas Vikström and Snowy Shaw ruined the band...their voices lack epicness and occult atmosphere. Shit like this happens. Take for example Ayreon and Avantasia. DON'T HAVE TOO MUCH GUEST VOCALS. And why the fuck Christopher had to cut his hair and put those stupid glasses and hat. Man, I died a little when I saw them live last spring. It was a theater, not a concert. [2] COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER!

I am not agreed, in my opinion both Snowy and Thomas perfectly fits the band, specialy Thomas is a perfect addition to Therion concept. The music is great and their live performances are awesome, MUSICALLY (and conceptually in my opinion, I like their image, but this is not that important). But wow! I still remember when I saw their live in Sitra Ahra tour... their stage presence is huge!

gorski_: It's just your negative view of the situation ;D Cause you are complaining about clothes and image, wich it's not the main matter. Although I truly respect your point about the current male singers, cause that it's your musical perception...

" Because it's supposed to be a theatre, deal with that. " - Yeah, and the theatre is so great, so deal with that.
