Originally called The Neptunes, Chris Plum started this band in 1999. Mood Elevator is another incarnation of Brendan Benson and the Welfed Boys. Brendan Benson (Brendan Benson and the Welfed Boys, Raconteurs, …etc.) takes a brake from front man status to do backing vocals and rhythm guitar, while Chris Plum writes and performs as the front man. While the members are the same, there is a distinctive difference in sound when you compare The Welfed Boys to Mood Elevator - notably power pop and heavy guitar riffs not found in Brendan Benson's usual, classic/alterative sound.
