The Gothic Archies is a band consisting of one member, Stephin Merritt, more famously of The Magnetic Fields.

The Tragic Treasury… is a collection of songs originally released as music for the audio book version of Lemony Snicket’s “A Series of Unfortunate Events”. There are thirteen songs corresponding to the 13 volumes in the series, plus two bonus tracks.
The Gothic Archies have also produced music for the audio book of Neil Gaiman’s “Coraline”.

I bought The New Despair a few months ago and was horrified to discover that the mastering was fucked and the CD skipped like hell. I need to find another copy sometime. The Tragic Treasury is great, though. Some of my favorite Merritt songs are on that disc.
