On “Breathe Deeper,” Kevin considers stressful and negative situations, how deep breathing can help with staying calm and making it through the situation.
The track was first teased in Q Magazine with the description:
"An album track that sums up Kevin Parker’s approach on the brilliant new Tame Impala, fusing spacey synths, throbbing house pianos and shuffling beats with the frontman’s dreamy melodies."
On December 24th, 2019, news sources began reporting that the track would be released later that week as the fourth single from the record. However, it was not, and “Lost In Yesterday” ended up being the fourth single instead.
On Spotify, Kevin says this is the song most influenced by Mariah Carey, as well as The Neptunes and Pharrell. He also mentioned that he was also inspired by his first time on ecstasy.
In a February 2020 interview promoting the album with Zane Lowe, Kevin explained, “I’m most creative when I’m uncomfortable. Like getting high in public.” He explained that he did this and came up with the beginning of “Breathe Deeper”.
"First time. I need to be guided. Everything feels new. Like a single-cell organism granted one day as a human. We’re all together. Why isn’t it always like this?" - via Apple Music
Tame Impala performed this song on Jimmy Kimmel Live in March 2020.
