Biography

School of Fish was an alternative rock band which formed in 1989 and disbanded in 1994.

The core members were Josh Clayton-Felt and Michael Ward who would play club dates in Los Angeles, California as a duo accompanied by programmed drums and bass. The band signed with Capitol Records in 1990, and released their first single on that same year on 7-inch vinyl. Their self-titled debut, School Of Fish, was released in March 1991, followed by their first single, Three Strange Days. Also during the same year, they appeared on a KROQ concert disc called the Acoustic Christmas. Their second album, Human Cannonball, was released in 1993. The album did not sell very well and was not as successful as the self-titled album. Shortly thereafter, the band broke up.

Singer Josh Clayton-Felt died on January 19, 2000 at 32 of testicular cancer. In the six years after School of Fish, he had released solo albums entitled Inarticulate Nature Boy (1995), Felt Like Making a Live Record (1996), Beautiful Nowhere (1999), Spirit Touches Ground (2002), and Center of Six (2003).

Guitarist Michael Ward went on to play with John Hiatt and eventually became a member of The Wallflowers. Chad Fischer went on to form the band Lazlo Bane, most known for original opening credits of the TV show Scrubs. He also performed music in the Garden State movie soundtrack. Christopher MacDonald, who played bass with the band on tour, but did not play on any School of Fish recordings, records synthesizer space music under the name Telomere (label Evenfall).

Sigh, only 67,000 plays. I think I had more than that of their two cds in the 1990s.

(18/05/1967–19/01/2000) R.I.P. Master Josh Clayton-Felt. Un verdadero crack q' se marchó demasiado temprano y sin su merecido reconocimiento. Pero tu música de 1ra siempre será recordada.

When these guys broke up, I basically stopped listening to rock music. While I guess they'll mostly be famous for 3 Strange Days, both of their albums are just really good. Really under appreciated.

3 Strange Days is one of the greatest songs ever. This band is a lot better than most of the garbage today, wish they still made music like this.

I 1ST HEARD THIS BAND WHEN 3 STRANGE DAYS CAME OUT& NOT TOO LONG AFTER AIRING IN HEAVY ROTATION ON RADIO/MTV. I COULDN'T GET ENOUGH OF THESE GUYS! I THINK THEY DID PRETTY WELL THEN, BUT THEY COULD REALLLY DO WELL NOW! POINT BEING THEY WERE VERY INNOVATIVE & WAY AHEAD OF THEIR TIME, BUT THAT'S PART OF THE REASON I LOVE THEIR & JCF'S (JOSH CLAYTON FELT) WORK, THEY ARE TRULY UNIQUE. A MASTERPIECE OF ITS OWN DEFINITION. THE PROGRESSIONS, THE JUMPY RHYTHMS, THE "DREAMSTATE" LYRICS, THE BRILLIANT USE OF MELODY AND NOISE. AHH, WHAT BEAUTIFUL IMAGES THIS MUSIC CAN PAINT IN THE MIND IF YOU ALLOW YOURSELF TO TRULY APPRECIATE IT, TAKE IT IN AND GET LOST IN IT FOR A WHILE. I ONLY WISH THAT JOSH WAS STILL ALIVE, SO THAT MAYBE THEY COULD WORK TOGETHER AGAIN & TOUR, &SO THAT JOSH WOULD STILL BE SHARING MORE OF THE BEAUTY THAT IS HIS SOUL THROUGH HIS MUSIC. SEE, GUESS I STILL CAN'T GET ENOUGH. I WILL ALWAYS LOVE THIS INGENIUS, YET UNFORTUNATELY SHORT LIVED BAND& I COULD REALLY SAY THE SAME FOR JCF.
