Biography

(2013 – present)

Run the Jewels is an American hip-hop duo that consists of emcee/producer El-P and emcee Killer Mike.

In 2012, El-P produced Killer Mike’s critically acclaimed album R.A.P. Music. The following week, Killer Mike appeared on the track “Tougher Colder Killer”, from El-P’s album Cancer 4 Cure.

Both won the acclaim of media and fans across the globe and led to 2012′s legendary, hugely successful “Into The Wild” tour. One year later, the duo return to satisfy fan demand, and their own creative urges, as Run The Jewels, cementing their musical alliance with a full album of uncompromisingly raw, forward thinking hip-hop.

They released their self titled debut album, Run The Jewels, on June 26 2013, via Fool’s Gold Records.

Their follow-up record, Run The Jewels 2, was announced in August 2014. It was released through Mass Appeal Records, on October 24, 2014. They also announced the release of a traditional remix album of Run the Jewels 2, which will be released via fool’s gold Records in 2015, and a remix album titled Meow the Jewels exclusively featuring “cat sounds” which will see guest production from Prince Paul, Alchemist, Just Blaze and others.

Anyone know if there's been any mention of an RTJ2 instrumentals album?

*yawn* Another day, another artist "saving" hip hop. We're all at a funeral, but rap's pressing its face against the glass going "You cunts, I'm not dead!". Enough, already. People have been trying to martyr hip hop for 20 fucking years, the narrative's just not taking off.

Jureiko: The gun and fist symbol was created by someone called Nick Gazin. El sent him a picture of him literally doing that with his hands and he created it from that. The undead thing is something to do with redemption and coming back from the dead. Or you could make up your own meaning.

I mean they are my favourite duo with Black star purely as two MCs who sound like they belong together. Madvillainy was amazing but more of a producer/MC thing anyway.

@humblegold reviewed in the mainstream? not really, you could use madvillain as an example though. but I'm saying that a lot of people are getting hands on the underground material, at least El-P's, because of this hype they are getting. I mean who knew those two until run the jewels came along? (besides people who were already familiar with the underground)

Best duo since Black Star (maybe even better, I've lived with BS for years longer than RTJ so some sentimentality has to be taken into account). I love their current volume of activity as well too, keep releasin' while you're hot!
