Biography

Pure Prairie League (PPL) is one of the earliest and most successful bands in history. Pure Prairie League and the Eagles are two groups often credited with bringing the country rock genre to a national music audience, with PPL being best known for their iconic 1972 hit “Amie”. Having a frequently melodic, -driven sound, PPL’s roots can be found in Waverly, Ohio. In that city, from about 1964 to 1969, guitarist/ Craig Fuller, drummers Tom McGrail and Jim Caughlan, and pedal steel phenom John David Call all resided. The guys played in various bands together in their teen years, among them The Swiss Navy and The Omars.

The PPL ultimately located itself in Columbus, Ohio (sixty miles north of Waverly), and the group had its first success in Cincinnati. The original stage band was made up of Fuller, McGrail, Powell, Phil Stokes on bass, and Robin Suskind on guitar and mandola. His steel guitar greatly improved on the guys’ songs and sparked hot guitar duels with Fuller that contributed greatly to the ‘fusion’ ethos of the band, its signature sound.

PPL’s biggest hits include Fuller’s classic, “Amie”, a piece released in 1972 that still attracts major airplay today due to its , emotional sound.

Bustin' out is the best county rock album, the first album was excellent too. As far as i'm concerned their 3rd album was All In Good Time... 2006 with Graig Fuller back singing and writing. Forget most of that other stuff inbetween!

I met a beautiful girl named Amie last week, I hope she makes me feel as great as the song she's named after does! :)

Bustin' Out is one of the best country rock albums imo... Much better than any Eagles album fex. Though the CD is mixed poorly...

I loved "Amie" when I heard it in Value Village...I thought it sounded like Eagles at the time. Thank goodness I memorized enough of the lyrics to look up the band when I got home.
