1. Polaris was a one-off musical project in the mid-1990s involving members of the New Haven indie rock band Miracle Legion

Mark Mulcahy, Spot “Scott” Boutier, and Dave McCaffrey performed music for the Nickelodeon television show The Adventures of Pete & Pete under the name Polaris because a fourth Miracle Legion member was not available at the time; occasional guests included Joyce Raskin, Dennis Kelly, and Buell Thomas.

Polaris performed many of the songs featured on the show, including the theme song, “Hey Sandy”, and its members took “TV names”: Mulcahy was “Muggy”, Boutier was “Jersey”, and McCaffrey was “Harris Polaris.” In addition to appearing in the opening credits of each show, the band featured prominently in the episode “A Hard Day’s Pete”, in which Little Pete (Danny Tamberelli) is mesmerized by a garage band’s song (Polaris’ “Summerbaby”) and forms his own band to keep the tune in his memory.

Music from The Adventures of Pete & Pete, released in 1999 on Mulcahy’s Mezzotint label, contains many of the songs Polaris recorded for the show and is the group’s only album release.

Don't you just love it when the Universe recommends you music? After getting reaccustomed to Fishmans for the first time in 4-5 years, I've just found out they also made music under the sobriquet of Polaris, and yesterday alone I've encountered that word six times.

They've been at least active for the past two years, playing live shows and such. Especially with the recently released single, I would say they've "gotten back together", although Mulcahy said he's unsure if there will be a resulting album. The single alone would be enough for me, although a new album would completely floor me.

I'm not so sure it's that Polaris is 'getting back together', high_as_bells, as it was a side project of Mark Mulcahy's in the early 90's, specifically invented for Pete & Pete (a fantastic children's show from the 90's). He does do solo work, for a long time now. You should check it out high_as_bells. You may be happy to hear the albums 'fathering' and 'smile sunset'. Miracle Legion yes, was a real band, Mulcahy's first musical group from the 80's.

I've only just learned about Mulcahy's Polaris getting back together from a recommended video of a new Polaris song on youtube. They were no Miracle Legion, but this really is an awesome surprise. So cool! The song sounded good, too.

Mark Mulcahy's Polaris is the only one worth knowing about. [2] "progressive" and "metalcore" in one sentence, that's cute [2]
