I could understand that Opeth fans and metal fans in general wouldn't really like this album but I have to say that I like this album. Though it's much different from their older albums.

I don't understand how you could say there's nothing Opeth about this album. Although these songs lean towards prog rock, they are still really heavy tunes that are written in a similar style to everything else they've put out. It's not perfect, but it's definitely a nice new direction for the band

???? every time i revisit this shoutbox i'm just so shocked by the hate for this album. in my world, it's their first album to have any integrity for near a decade, and its my favorite since My Arms Your Hearse. I mean, would you guys rather it sound like Watershed and Ghost Reveries, which are easily Opeth's worst albums? People call this album the death of Opeth but it sounds like a resurrection to me.

There is hardly anything remotely Opeth about this album which I find really sad. Opeth tried going 70's prog and it failed. And I like 70's prog, but this is horribly disjointed, a lot of the song writing choices don't make sense and throughout most of it its utterly dull. Which I thought I'd never say about an Opeth album but its true. Also understand that I'm not coming from a position of "OMGZZ OPETH SUCKS NOW THEY DON'T DO'S DEATH GROWLZZ!". Though I do miss them, I could live with them if this album was up to the standard of Damnation. Which is an excellent album that actually sounds like an Opeth album rather than just a product of all their influences spliced into an incoherent mess. [2]

Maybe one day some of you will mature a bit more and learn to appreciate what a great--and I mean great--album Heritage is. Frankly, I hope Opeth never goes back to death growls just so you'll get tired of bashing them and move on. They gave us the better part of two decades of death metal, and they're allowed to change, which, in the end, is what being progressive is all about.
