Biography

Stockholm, Sweden (1998 – present)

Bloodbath is a Swedish supergroup formed in Stockholm in 1998 when, one evening, friends Mikael Åkerfeldt, Anders Nyström, Jonas Renkse and Dan Swanö, had the idea to play death metal in the realm of Entombed, mixed with some of the US Florida death metal scene bands. Quite simply, Bloodbath was born out of this shared admiration for quality death metal in the old style & the guys quickly realized that they could churn some ugly metal out to a pretty high standard.

Mikael Åkerfeldt left Bloodbath about a year after the release of “Resurrection Through Carnage” because he wanted to focus on his more serious group Opeth, but he still performed with the band at Wacken 2006. Peter Tägtgren replaced Mikael Åkerfeldt for the Nightmares Made Flesh release. He then returned to the band in 2008 and left again in 2012.

On September 16th, 2014, it was revealed that Paradise Lost frontman Nick Holmes had been selected as the band’s new vocalist. The band has completed recording and mixing their fourth full-length album “Grand Morbid Funeral”, which was released on November 17th, 2014 through Peaceville Records.

I prefer Nick Holmes to Mikael Åkerfeldt. If Peter Tägtgren did vocals for Bloodbath again though I could die happy.

I had a lot of doubts about Holmes holding this gig down but damn, does he deliver.

I really like Nick Holmes.... ....in Paradise Lost. Please bring back the full-bellied low growls. That throaty evil stuff is cool but did not serve the older songs live whatsoever.

People don't forget that easily but with Nick Holmes Bloodbath achieved someone predestined for the style of "Grand Morbid Funeral". Åkerfeldt wouldn't fit the dirty and disgusting atmosphere here, sorry [3]

Akerstache dida a great job growling but, he burned out his throat fast because of that, he can´t even growl in Opeth anymore, Holmes did a OK job with this album.

Nick Holmes ruins Grand Morbid Funeral for me. his sore throat stretching vocals prevents me from enjoying the instruments. Akerstache did a better job

Nick is great and all, but Åkerfeldt's work on previous albums and eps is fucking amazing. People seem to forget that too easily.

Nick's growling is very good and I actually might understand lyrics except of many DM bands like Cannibal Corpse: "Bluahblu buuu rroagh bluhblah uu" xD
