Biography

Stockholm, Sweden (1998 – present)

Bloodbath is a Swedish supergroup formed in Stockholm in 1998 when, one evening, friends Mikael Åkerfeldt, Anders Nyström, Jonas Renkse and Dan Swanö, had the idea to play death metal in the realm of Entombed, mixed with some of the US Florida death metal scene bands. Quite simply, Bloodbath was born out of this shared admiration for quality death metal in the old style & the guys quickly realized that they could churn some ugly metal out to a pretty high standard.

Mikael Åkerfeldt left Bloodbath about a year after the release of “Resurrection Through Carnage” because he wanted to focus on his more serious group Opeth, but he still performed with the band at Wacken 2006. Peter Tägtgren replaced Mikael Åkerfeldt for the Nightmares Made Flesh release. He then returned to the band in 2008 and left again in 2012.

On September 16th, 2014, it was revealed that Paradise Lost frontman Nick Holmes had been selected as the band’s new vocalist. The band has completed recording and mixing their fourth full-length album “Grand Morbid Funeral”, which will be released on November 17th, 2014 through Peaceville Records.

I love Nick and all Paradise Lost (not heard Host), but his addition to the Bloodbath deathmachine is like a water-pistol mounted on a tank. Are you growling or talking Nick?

I love the new song, I think those vocals fit really well. Just curious to see how Nick holds up with the previous material.

I like the music. not sure about the vocals though. they're not bad in general, but I feel like Bloodbath needs something more massive.

New Song is OK . Nick vocals are average, the production seems to much di-toned

I actually think the new vocals are pretty cool, they feel really old-school. The music behind them is *excellent* anyway.

Scandinavian old school death metal in the vein of Grave, Dismember and Unleashed, for the win. Nick Holmes renewal with death growls sounds painful though.

Old Nick is great. Different growling style, but hey, that's what Bloodbath's about.

the vocals are rotten sounding, like it should be :D i've listened multiple times to the song already and i'm diggin it! unusual vocals yes, but..... it's an interesting way for Holmes to set his vocals apart from the other Bloodbath vocalists... It's an innovating shift from their last album.... Now we all have to wait out to hear Holmes do the older Bloodbath songs live.... It will be a challenge for him, and that's what makes me extremely curious. Now get that European tour coming!

The new track is disappointing. And that's very hard for me to say, as a fan of both Bloodbath and Paradise Lost. The music itself is spot on, Bloodbath style, but the vocals do not fit at all. I hope the rest of the album isn't as bad.

Sooo... the new song is... nice, I guess? The vocals are unusual, but it's still good ol' Bloodbath.

The low growls are fucking awesome; the medium ones will take some getting used to. Still, music's as awesome as always.
