Copenhagen, Denmark (2008 – present)

Oh Land is a Danish singer-songwriter and record producer, whose birth name is Nanna Øland Fabricius. Born in 1985 in Copenhagen, Denmark, Nanna is a daughter of an opera singer mother and an organist father, and a former ballet student who decided to adopt a music career after an injury caused by a slipped disc and spinal fracture forced her to give up dancing. Oh Land’s debut album, Fauna, was released in her native Denmark on November 10, 2008 by Danish independent label Fake Diamond Records. Following that, she sailed across the sea to the artistic haven of Brooklyn, NY where she worked with producers Dan Carey, Dave McCracken and Pharrell Williams for her self-titled follow-up, which also served as her debut disc in the United States. The album was released on March 14, 2011 in Europe and the following day in the US.

With her opera singer for a mother, theater organist father and Björk’s Homogenic on constant rotation, Oh Land was enraptured by the combination of experimental and classical arts. “My goal is to sound like I’m from 2050, but still feel really classic, like the music is an old friend,” said Oh Land. She spent her days pirouetting as a ballet dancer at the Danish Royal Ballet Academy when an injury forced her to reinvent herself and discover her true talent and passion as a musician. Oh Land was discovered by Kasper Bjørke who soon released her first album, Fauna, which garnered critical acclaim in her homeland of Denmark. Her soundscapes are lavish, crunchy, symphonic, brute and captivated with rhythms that fly apart.

Also I love the fact that the album is self-produced like Fauna :)

Yes, everyone has a right for an opinion of their own. :) Gotta say that the album is a grower. First I only liked few songs but after listening to it for many times, I love every single track!

It's not "torturing", I didn't even call the album a bad album lol I just gave my opinion about some songs and the overall mood of the album

I may reestate my opinion about the album, it's still a very good album and Oh Land it's still a great musician, but after a couple of listens the album gets a bit tiring to listen to... Songs like Machine, No Particular Order, Earth Sick, Traibalizer are AMAZING, but the middle of the album feels a bit repetitive, like the same formula for all the songs and sometimes the songs' chorus are a bit too much, a bit "up to your face", it feels exhaustive to listen to in its entirety... It's a better album than Wish Bone because it's much more produced and cohesive, but lacks something that Fauna had that captivated me so much... Some songs like Daylight sounds like it's overdone... Idk, kinda tiring after a few listens but it's a very good album anyways

Earth Sick is nice. Good mix of tracks. BTW, is that Laleh on background vocs in "Hot'n'Bothered" (the "we know" bits)? o_O

I like how she got back to her roots, Earth Sick has kind of the same style as her first album Fauna, and I love that. She made some alternative songs and some pop songs to please her creative instinct.

So I'm alone in thinking this album is kinda shitty. Only 5 good tunes, the rest is so underwhelming. Well, at least it's making me appreciate Wish Bone some more. Will wait for the next album and enjoy Trailblazer, NPO and the title track in the meantime.
