Biography

Blackpool, Lancashire, England (2005 – present)

Little Boots is the stage name of the Victoria Christina Hesketh (born in 4 May 1984 in Blackpool, Lancashire, England). Her stage name comes from a nickname given to her by a friend, a reference to her unusually small feet. As a musician, Little Boots sings and plays the piano, keyboards, synthesizer, stylophone and a Japanese electronic instrument called Tenori-on.

After a return to college to focus on her studies, Hesketh along with two of her fellow students formed the electronic/indie pop band Dead Disco in 2005. The band had limited releases of their four singles but due to increasingly different ideas about the band’s musical direction, Hesketh left to pursue a solo career. Hesketh has cited as influences The Human League, Gary Numan, Kraftwerk, Pink Floyd, Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, and Jean-Michel Jarre.

Hesketh began writing her own songs and posting covers on the social networking sites such as YouTube and MySpace. After appearing on several shows including Later… with Jools Holland and Last Call with Carson Daly, Hesketh entered production on her debut album. With increasing media attention regarding her then-yet-to-be-released debut album, Hesketh topped the BBC Sound of 2009 poll and received a BRIT Critics Choice nomination. She has been linked to a wave of breakthrough female artists in their twenties playing 1980s-influenced music, including Lady Gaga, Ladyhawke, Florence and The Machine, and Elly Jackson of La Roux.

I think Nocturnes album is a completely grower. At first, I don't even listened to it but then I began to enjoy every song from the album. For me, it's better than 'Hands'.

it's hard to admit, but i kinda prefer Hands I think... Nocturnes is definitely more of her own style, but there's just too much stuff on there I don't reeally care about. Hands has quite a few fillers too (Ghost is her worst song ever in my opinion), but the overall impression you're left with is more satisfying I guess. So far I wouldn't count her as one of those artists that give me complete perfect ALBUMS.

I've left Nocturnes alone for a while and just gone back to it, it's sounding a lot better now than it did on my first listen. [2] I knew there was something in this difference between the two albums. I love Hands, but I'm also glad she's now able to make music the way she wanted.

Compared to Hands,Nocturnes is terrible! It's like she completely changed her style from dance to some sort of trance stuff, the lyrics are repetitive and boring. I hope she goes back to her original style. :( [2]

Yeah, she said that in an interview. She felt that Hands was overproduced. I've left Nocturnes alone for a while and just gone back to it, it's sounding a lot better now than it did on my first listen

I don't think she will go back to the "Hands" style, Nocturnes was what she wanted to do, her label just wasn't letting her do it.

Can't believe she's playing Russia on April 10 2014. Reappraising my appreciation.
