Biography

Blackpool, Lancashire, England (2005 – present)

Little Boots is the stage name of the Victoria Christina Hesketh (born in 4 May 1984 in Blackpool, Lancashire, England). Her stage name comes from a nickname given to her by a friend, a reference to her unusually small feet. As a musician, Little Boots sings and plays the piano, keyboards, synthesizer, stylophone and a Japanese electronic instrument called Tenori-on.

After a return to college to focus on her studies, Hesketh along with two of her fellow students formed the electronic/indie pop band Dead Disco in 2005. The band had limited releases of their four singles but due to increasingly different ideas about the band’s musical direction, Hesketh left to pursue a solo career. Hesketh has cited as influences The Human League, Gary Numan, Kraftwerk, Pink Floyd, Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, and Jean-Michel Jarre.

Hesketh began writing her own songs and posting covers on the social networking sites such as YouTube and MySpace. After appearing on several shows including Later… with Jools Holland and Last Call with Carson Daly, Hesketh entered production on her debut album. With increasing media attention regarding her then-yet-to-be-released debut album, Hesketh topped the BBC Sound of 2009 poll and received a BRIT Critics Choice nomination. She has been linked to a wave of breakthrough female artists in their twenties playing 1980s-influenced music, including Lady Gaga, Ladyhawke, Florence and The Machine, and Elly Jackson of La Roux.

Nocturnes apesta, realmente me decepciono, esperar 4 años para esta mierda?

I think the less-bad lyrics are in All For You. "Tell me why these illusions have a voice"

Yeah, despite how much I love Nocturnes, the lyrics are pretty lame D: Still love it though

@Fox_Genetrix Well I'm happy for you..that you can enjoy Little boots new album so much, over the first one. I think it's cool how Nocturnes is really different from Hands. I hope you get to see her live. :-)

Albums like Electra Heart and Hands get old for me really quick, I just love how I can keep coming back to Nocturnes despite playing it so much.

Idk I prefer Nocturnes, there's something about it. I never thought much of her before. It sucks seeing so many complain when I wish I could see her live :-/

That's my point there...that Victoria would be better off just having others write lyrics for her because she's not that interesting as a songwriter, or even a composer.

Her lyrics weren't that great on Hands either, hell she barely wrote the lyrics lol. i love nocturnes at least she had more control with it with less phantom hands putting in their corporate input.

I'll be so embarrassed for her if she did Eurovision next year.

For those interested in who Lise Karlsnes is..she was the talenteed lead singer of Briskeby 00-05. Here's her single Red hot.

Nocturnes has better flow and really cool synth sounds..and her voice is lovely. However, you can just tell by her lyrics that she isn't that interesting as an artist. Instead, Victoria's lyrics just rely on very simplistic generalizations of relationships and single words repeated about dancing in the club. Kind of lame. Hell even Lise Karlsnes's "Dance or die" has more interesting lyrics and artistic expression.

V same! I was never a huge fan of Hands, so I followed other new wave acts like La Roux and Ladyhawke. Hands is jarring between tracks, Nocturnes is cohesive and less gimmicky. Hands does have great tracks like Stuck on repeat, remedy, and no brakes

I've heard of Little Boots in 2008. I remember that she was compared a lot with Ladyhawke and La Roux. I admit that I was disappointed with her debut album, Hands. In 2013, I listened to Nocturnes and I liked it instantly. I re-listened to her debut and I liked it too (esp. the masterpiece "Stuck on Repeat"). Four other facts made me like her a lot: 1. She has an awesome taste in music (Jean-Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk, The Human League, Ladytron, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Gary Numan, Pink Floyd etc) 2. She built her own laser harp, inspired by Jarre 3. She's a big fan of synths 4. From what I've seen on some video interviews, Victoria is down to earth and charming.

Indeed, Nocturnes is amazing. Her music evolved in the right direction (less pop and more electronic).

Nocturnes is amazing. I don't think the songs drag on at all, in fact I wish they were longer. Quality over quantity. I can't wait to hear La Roux's new album too! [2]

I like that both Ladyhawke and little boots have expanded their sounds, they have to since there are way more wannabe electronic new wave acts out now. I can't wait to hear La Roux's new album too!
