Nanko refers to two artists: one is a singer from Jamaica, famous for 2005s big tune Lucky You on the Sweet Sop riddim.

The other (less famous) Nanko is an electronic music bod from Holland. The photo to the left is him. His record company posted the following blurb:

September 2005 saw the release of Rotterdam electronicus and guitar pioneer Nanko’s debut cd on the Laterax label: a auditory report of one year’s worth of experimenting with electronics combined with melodic and atonal guitar improvisations.

The result is a bizarre collection of beats, atmospheric soundscapes, and guitar shreds, which has caused many a reviewer to invent a whole new arsenal of linguisitic acrobatics.

In retrospect this debut was an artistic stepping stone for his new album ‘Stratonica’, on which his fragmented sound collages have been absorbed to form eleven well-balanced compositions, and on which his typical sound has been perfected to a complete innate aesthetic.

Nanko seems to effortlessly switch between emptiness and richness, monotony and hysteria, without losing overall coherence, thereby combining his interest in the great classical composers such as Stravinsky and psychedelic rockbands from the late sixties.

2006 saw Nanko earning his place on leading festivals such as Amsterdam’s Sonic Acts, the Rotterdam Electronic Music Festival, and The Hague’s State-X New Forms. ‘Stratonica’ paves the way for the big international stages of innovative electronic music.
