Biography
La Mojarra eléctrica is a 12-piece Colombian band who mixes afrobeat with traditional Colombian music based in Bogotá, Colombia. The band was formed in 2001 exploring the Colombian folk music (Bullerenge, Chirimia, Currulao… and many others) mixing it with afrodecending elements (Soukus, Ragga, Reggae ,Timba, cubana, Funk and Jazz ).
According to the band’s clarinetist, director and composer Jacobo Velez, they want to project their particular sound and their mixture of races/cultures to the world.
The song Calle 19 was included within the top hundred songs of Latin America by Rolling Stone Magazine.
