Archive release for a few minutes there
from the Miroslav Moesche Sound Archive Trust

In 1958 Avis Partner asked Miroslav Moesche ( Milo Moesche ) to write the film score for his first Hollywood feature film ‘For a Few Minutes’. The score was duly written and a phonographic recording was made with Moesche himself conducting the Beverly Hills Orchestra for Film and Television. Hailed at the time, by some critics, as possibly the greatest marriage of cinematographic art and orchestral music ever, both Moesche and Partner were widely tipped for Oscars. Unfortunately, before the film went on general release, Partner was to become embroiled in the Dorchester Supper Scandal and the film was pulled by the studio.

Although, after several court cases, Partner did manage to clear his name, his reputation had been irreparably damaged and the film was consigned to “the back room” by the studio. Spiritually broken and financially bankrupt Partner committed suicide in 1961.

The only surviving print of the film was destroyed in a fire at the vaults of Ten Tone Studios in 1979.

This recording, all that remains of what was a three hour sound track, is the property of the Miroslav Moesche Sound Archive Trust. It comes from the moment in the film when, following the accidental death of his young wife, Warwick Chiff (played by Clarence Nineoaks), sets off to drive alone along the coast road as a storm begins to gather in the bay. The scene segues into an apparently meaningless sequence of what was, for the time, quite risque semi-nudity involving the Hollywood starlet Muriel Mather. This one minute twenty seven second sequence of a young woman frolicking in a sun dappled stream is Muriel Mather’s only appearance in the film.

Milo Moesche died on Christmas day, 2008. He was eighty eight years old.
