Matt Monro (December 1, 1930 (or 1932, say some sources) - February 7, 1985) was a ballad singer of the 1960s and one of great international postwar entertainers. Throughout his 30-year career he filled cabarets, nightclubs, music halls and stadiums across the globe, from Australia, Japan, the Philippines, and Hong Kong to Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas. He sold more than 25 million records during his lifetime (most of those sales however didn’t come until after his death), imbuing each one with his elegant blend of majesty, sincerity, and superior technique.

You would think Matt would have more plays since he did songs for two very popular films, 'From Russia with Love,' and 'The Italian Job,' which is repeated on TV pretty much every week! I would have hoped that these would have influenced people to have checked out more of his songs.

For anyone who is interested, EMI release on 23 April 2012 'Completely Cilla: 1963-1973' - a 5CD boxset of material by the British pop singer Cilla Black who began her career alongside The Beatles in Liverpool during the 1960s. Cilla went on to chart 18 Top 40 singles during that decade and toured across the world with many of the other sixties greats. The new set contains 139 recordings all produced by George Martin (the man behind The Beatles' hits) and comes with a bonus Region 0 / NTSC DVD of many previously unreleased BBC TV music performances.

Matt Monro is wonderful, and his voice is much more wonderful. Frank Sinatra and him may have similar voices, but Monro is different; he uses his inner deep soul which then affects his voice and turns it into something so beautiful. Sinatra is more of the elated night life soul, while Monro is more of the emotive soul, and that is a huge difference. They are both great either way, just different from one another.
