About this album

Call of the Mastodon is a compilation of early songs from the heavy metal band Mastodon. It was released on February 7, 2006 by Relapse Records.
It contains alternate re-ordered versions of all the songs from their debut EP Lifesblood, as well as three tracks from their 7” self-titled vinyl released in 2000 and a bonus song “Call of the Mastodon” which has only appeared on the “9 Song Demo”, which originally contained vocals by their previous vocalist Eric Saner.

This was their final release on Relapse, as they have since been signed to Warner Music.

Dayum, I under-rated this one for so long. Just as good as Remission.

This compilation is pretty good. :) I think by "too heavy" that person meant too irritating. The guitars are a bit much.

There is no such thing as too heavy when it comes to metal and this record kicks ass.

If you think any metal album by any metal band is "too heavy" you are not a metalhead.

LOL at mainstream metal fans complaining about old Mastodon being "too heavy"! I wonder how you'd feel toward truly heavy sludge :P This stuff is still great!

I like the 'thudding' sound of his bass-drum(s) on these recording. Solid :p

"I like Mastodon, but this early shit is too fucking heavy for me." hmm, it seems that people associate anything really heavy by Mastodon to be 'early' material
