Biography

Based in Philadelphia, PA, Man Man is an experimental indie band that incorporates Eastern European and circus-esque styles in their music, creating a unique sound. The band consists of Honus Honus (lead vocals, piano, percussion), Pow Pow (drums, auxiliary percussion), Critter Crat (aka Cougar) (guitar, trumpet, bass, marimba, vocals), Organ Freeman (synth, organ, accordion, vocals), and Chang Wang (alto sax, bari sax, vibraphone, melodica, flute, percussion, vocals).

Their style has been compared to a mixture of Tom Waits, Frank Zappa, and Captain Beefheart. Man Man is known for their distinctive live shows where the members of the band dress in white tennis outfits and don war paint. During their sets the band does not take breaks between songs in order to keep a constant energy level.

Man Man has released two LPs with Ace Fu Records: The Man In The Blue Turban With A Face (2004) and Six Demon Bag (2006). In November 2007 they signed with Anti- to release Rabbit Habits (2008). Their second Anti- release is titled Life Fantastic and was released in 2011.

p0wer and for music-review readers\watchers. who cares if pitchfork liked it or not? pitch fork is simply made up of other people young and old who possess opinions just like you. who is we lol? the actual question is, did you like it? why read reviews when you can just listen to the music and decide, it's like what 2-5 mins for the average bands song? one is wasting more time that he doesn't have. which could really just be used listening to new music yourself instead.

Love pretty much every track so far on this new album. While they've moved away from the weirdness that dominated their first couple of albums somewhat, the energy and creativity in the music never diminished. And lol, there are still people who care what Pitchfork says? They occasionally have some good recs, but it's such a cesspool...

I'm really digging the new album, it's not the Man Man I fell in love with, but we all grow up and they grew up well :)

@p0wer_v1olence: I don't think Pitchfork hated it... the rating Ian gave On Oni Pond is pretty low, but the review itself is not bad. Being hard to pigeonhole, and avoiding the overused riffs of the contemporary "indie lo-fi alternative table tennis gum chewing hipster jazzcore rock for tight pants", Man Man's albums are hard to review. Personally, I find this album to be amazing, it's Man Man, all right, no doubt about it. They're doing their thing, having fun along the way, and we get to enjoy it as always. These guys are the only band I'm aware of still worthwhile in 2013. And that's more than can be said about most emo-hipster-"alt"-indie acts around.

Love On Oni Pond., like a danceable version of contained weirdness.

Pitchfork hated it. Do we still like it? I'm confused.
