Phoenix, United States (1999 – present)
Kinch formed in 1999 when cousins Andrew Junker and Brian Coughlin began writing and recording music with childhood friend Jake Malone, while the three were attending Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix. A few years later, the band recorded a demo EP Corinth while attending separate colleges across the country. While on break, they convened in Los Angeles and gigged around Los Angeles clubs The Knitting Factory and The Silverlake Lounge.
Upon graduation in 2006, Kinch relocated to their hometown Phoenix, Arizona at the suggestion of mentor John Hartmann (former manager of America, Crosby Stills and Nash, The Eagles) in order to pursue the band full time.
In 2007, they self-released their first single, Londontown, which was produced by Craig Schumacher (Neko Case, Calexico) at Wavelab Studios in Tucson, Arizona. Shortly thereafter, bassist Bryan Witt joined the band.
