About This Track

“All of the Lights” is a song from Kanye West’s fifth studio album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The track features drop-ins from Rihanna, Alicia Keys, John Legend, The-Dream, Fergie, Kid Cudi, Elton John (on piano), Ryan Leslie, Charlie Wilson, Tony Williams and La Roux singer Elly Jackson. The song was written by Kanye West, Jeff Bhasker, Malik Jones, Warren Trotter and produced by Kanye West and Jeff Bkasker. The video edit included only Rihanna and Kid Cudi’s vocals, but Rihanna was the only credited featured artist.

According to the All of the Lights Songfacts, Drake also recorded vocals for this track but was dropped from the final version. During an appearance on Shade 45’s morning show the rapper explained that despite not knowing why he was removed, he’s cool about it. Said Drake: “We make music differently. I make what comes to me and I hate changing it, whereas ‘Ye will change something 30 or 40 times to get it perfect. To each their own, and the change was to put all those people on it, and I wasn’t one of them. That’s completely OK.”

I don't get how a song could have Rihanna, Kid Cudi, and Fergi, but still be extremely good. Kanye West is a genius.

I adore this song. It might be weird to say, but for me it sums up the shallowness of the whole 'high rolla' and celebrity status. It's still awesome to be there, but deep down it's sad and empty. Enough of that faux-philosophizing, back to this sick track. [3]

Need a version with only Cudi? I'm pretty sure you don't want a 5 minute loop of his bridge.

I die a little inside every time Rihanna says that "fast cars, shooting stars" line. I don't know why, but her whole hook in the song comes across as so vain, it hurts.
