There are at least five artists with this name.

1) Jewel Kilcher (born May 23, 1974 in Payson, Utah, United States) is a singer, songwriter, actress, and poet, generally known just by her first name, Jewel. She has received four Grammy Award nominations.

Jewel is the daughter of Nedra Carroll, an artist and personal manager, and Atz Kilcher, an elementary school music teacher, folk singer and social worker. Her mother of Irish descent and her father is of Swiss-German origin. She is the cousin of actress Q’Orianka Kilcher. She spent most of her young life in Homer, Alaska, United States, living with her father. The home she grew up in did not have indoor plumbing; it had a simple outhouse instead. She and her father sometimes earned a living by singing in bars and taverns. It was from these experiences she learned to yodel, a quality demonstrated in many of her songs. Her father was a Mormon, but they stopped attending the church shortly before she turned eight. Yule Kilcher, her grandfather, was a state senator involved in drafting Alaska’s constitution for its admission into a state from a territory in 1959.

During high school, Jewel was known to spell her name “Jule” or “Juel,” but she attributes this to simply playing with her name.

Jewel learned to play the guitar while at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan, United States where she majored in operatic voice. She started writing songs at the age of seventeen.

I think, at the time 0304 seemed like a shocking, sell-out move but in retrospect, now it actually seems a brave and interesting thing for her to do, especially as the album still stands up pretty well 10 years on.

0304 is an incredibly strong album, while being nothing remotely close to a "sell out".

Why do people assume that "0304" is "selling-out" because it has a dance/pop theme? Listen to the lyrics! It's the same Jewel she always was! So silly. I think it's great she wanted to try something new - folk/country artists RARELY step outside of their bubble, and she does. It's one of the reasons I love her. The best artists are the ones that try new and innovative things and get really creative with it, not the ones who make the same album over and over for 10 years straight.

I love Jewel! I have been a fan since the beginning of her career in 1994. I have been listening to her Christmas albums and I heard Joy album once a long time ago and didn't care for it and listened again today and still don't care for it! Disappointed but, like a few songs on there and I still want the album! I love her new Christmas album so far! I am listening to it now and I am so glad she made another one!

Pieces Of You will always be her greatest album. It's what made her famous and I don't get why she felt the need to make an album like 0304, she was already famous for being a folk/alternative singer, she didn't need to sell out or anything :) [2]
