Biography

1) Dying Wish is an American / band originating from Portland, Oregon. The band was formed in 2018 and consists of vocalist Emma Boster, guitarists Pedro Carrillo and Sam Reynolds, bassist Jon Mackey, and drummer Jeff Yambra. Former bassist Andrew Le departed the band in 2023, and Jon Mackey joined as his replacement.

The band's inception occurred during a basement show hosted by Creeping Death in 2018. Their first demo, titled "Dying Wish," featured three tracks and was released on June 25, 2018. Knocked Loose, a prominent metalcore band, headlined a show in Portland and handpicked Dying Wish as the local support act. A year later, Bryan from Knocked Loose asked Emma to do vocals on their upcoming song "A Serpent's Touch".

The release of "A Serpent's Touch" led to Dying Wish being offered a support slot on Counterpart's US tour. They later released a split EP titled "Dying Wish / Serration" with the Canadian band Serration on November 23, 2018. This release garnered the band a nomination for Best International Band at the UK's Heavy Music Awards.

Their debut album, "Fragments of a Bitter Memory," was launched on October 1, 2021, under SharpTone Records. The album sees Bryan from Knocked Loose return the favour by featuring on the track "Enemies in Red". The lyrics delves into Emma's experiences as a survivor of an alcoholic stepfather, along with reflections on police brutality and anti-colonialism.

Dying Wish's music falls somewhere between 00s metalcore and modern hardcore, resulting in a passionate and fierce sound. Their music serves as a platform for addressing deeply personal, emotional, and political topics. Dying Wish embraces the countercultural aspects of hardcore, aiming to challenge societal norms and oppressiveness. They express their left-leaning politics, advocating for liberation, abolition, and revolution in their spirit and song. The band actively supports various causes affecting BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities, the environment, policing, and other intersectional issues while unyieldingly focusing on personal tribulations and trauma. Unity without compromise remains at the core of Dying Wish's musical and activist identity.

2) Dying Wish is a Hungarian band with Hungarian lyrics, formed in 1996.
