Switzerland (1968 – 1975, 1980 – 1983, 1998 – present)

Brainticket is an rock band, with strong leanings. Brainticket was founded in 1968 in Switzerland by Belgian Joel Vandroogenbroeck when He, Ron Bryer and Wolfgang Paap—all part of the Jazz group Dee Dee, Barry and The Movements—decided to form a new band together with some southern German and Swiss musicians. Although members came and went during their tenure, the most popular lineup consisted of Vandroogenbroeck (organ, flute), Ron Bryer (guitar), Werni Frohlich (bass), Cosimo Lampis (drums), Wolfgang Paap (tabla), Dawn Muir (vocals), Carole Muriel (vocals, zither), and Hellmuth Kolbe (potentiometers, generators, and sound effects).

Their first album Cottonwoodhill has been referred to as one of the most psychedelic albums recorded. Allmusic.com reviewer Rolf Semprebon described it as “one of the trippiest records ever made, capturing the intensity of the peak LSD experience far more successfully than any Timothy Leary recording, and even today, when many such documents from that era can sound silly and dated, Brainticket’s fascinating debut still holds hallucinogenic potency.” The original LP was issued with a warning stating “after listening to this record, your friends may not know you anymore” and to “only listen to this once a day. Your brain might be destroyed!”.

The music of brainticket is so imaginitive that it makes me think about the life as an sonic speed and the wisdom what has gathered from the past... The people ive met, the books ive readed, places ive been... Rarety and quality.

they were most incredible on this 2011 tour. I went with neutral expectations and was floored! Joel is the only original member, but he's got a great lineup including members of Farflung and Indian Jewelry(!)... I don't think that vocalist Abby Travis does a whole lot of psych/space-rock, but she really got into the mesmeric sci-fi/Egypt/trance stuff and went to town with it.
