Al Lewis is a singer-songwriter from North Wales who now shares his time between Cardiff and London.

A relative latecomer to music, Al seemed set for a career in number crunching having enrolled at the University of Bristol to study Economics.

Whilst on a year’s exchange out in Toulouse, France, Al began to perform solo acoustic concerts for the locals. It was thanks to their warm encouragement that Al began to seriously consider making music for a living.

When he returned from France, Al set out to record his first demo EP; these songs would later get extensive coverage by both BBC Radio Wales and Bristol.

A month after he’d graduated, the untimely passing of his father would further reinforce Al’s determination to do what he loved. He turned his back on the world of finance and packed his bags for London, certain to give – in his Dad’s words – “this music thing” a shot.

In 2007 Al released his first two singles ‘Waiting for You’ and ‘I’ll be the Moon’ on his own label.

These helped earn Al slots at the ‘Wakestock Festival” alongside Mark Ronson and at the inaugural ‘Swn Festival’ in Cardiff organised by Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens.

In March 2007 Al co-wrote and performed the song ‘Llosgi’ (Burning) on the televised ‘Song For Wales’ competition, winning the songwriters category and coming second overall. Al has since released two Welsh language EP’s, entitled ‘Byw mewn Breuddwyd’ and ‘Dilyn Pob Cam’ and is now a regular face on the Welsh Language music scene.
