Abakus is Russell Davies the son of Dave Davies the founder of the Kinks. Who also releases electro/disco-house under the moniker Cinnamon Chasers.

His initial album “That Much Closer To The Sun”, released in 2004 on Liquid Sound Design, was an album that appealed to both fans of psychedelic and balearic chillout.

His following release, four years later, on Modus Records “We Share The Same Dreams” introduced more of an electro feel and was followed by a free digital mix “The Jaguar Sessions”.

2010 saw another release on Modus Records, entitled Prisms.

This guy's music was a recommendation for those who like Bluetech. Very good artist. I really like Crystal Visions, Spark, Dreams of Neon, New Era, Wasted Feelings etc...

How can the same person make Prisms and That Much Closer To The Sun? This still baffles me...

"silent geometry" although it sounds a bit like a daft punk is a nice reminder of a fantastic "that much closer of a sun". no that good though it's still a decent album, way much better than his lat three longplays.

Новый альбом просто волшебный. Лучшее, что я у него слышал.

new album Silent Geometry sounds pretty good on first listen, def some tracks better than others but Russell has proved he can't be pinned down to one genre, which is great! keep breaking new ground

I loved and still do love Futurism part 1! and want a part 2! It is a great amalgamation of old house mixed with elements of Deadmau5 and have let a couple of people who like Deadmau5 stuff and they liked/loved it too but can see why it alienated the psy/psychill crowd but you should never expect an artist to carry on churning out the same music just to please a fanbase!

Futurism Pt. 1 made me think of watered-down Phutureprimitive. I think I get what he's trying to do - to create a sort of genre-blending "snapshot" of EDM (and I would've loved it if he'd succeeded as well as Phutureprimitive) - but he's trying too hard to make references to other music instead of using them for his own purposes. There are highlights like Laserbass but he's pretty much going to have to start from scratch with this approach.

Such a shame. The new album is a f**ing robostep-tech-bullshit. Hey, psy-producers, what is the matter with you?

Such a shame. New album ''Futurism'' is so disappointing... I was hoping for the Big Come Back of Abakus and for the same sensation I have when I listen to ''That Much Closer to the Sun''. But this feeling is irretrievably lost, I'm afraid. The last track ''Laserbass'' made my brow raised a bit but that was it... And unfortunately that wasn't enough.
